Single Origin · Nicaragua · 100% Theobroma Ceremonial Cacao

A return to yourself

A cup of Back to Self is an invitation to pause.

Like taking the deep exhale you didn’t realise you were holding, cacao creates a moment to soften, reconnect and come home to yourself.

Naturally rich in theobromine, cacao offers a gentle and sustained lift, while magnesium and other essential minerals help support a sense of balance and wellbeing.

Why cacao?

We find its the best alternative

A nourishing ritual for those wishing to move away from the intensity of coffee or replace an evening glass of wine with something more intentional.

We love how its gentle yet energising

Theobromine provides a smoother, longer-lasting sense of energy and focus, without the sharp rise and fall often associated with caffeine.

We feel our wellbeing and moods are more balanced

Naturally occurring magnesium and plant compounds make cacao a beautiful companion for moments of rest, creativity and connection.

It’s gloriously rich in antioxidants

Cacao contains flavanols and polyphenols, which help protect the body from oxidative stress and support overall wellbeing.

And abundantly mineral rich

A natural source of magnesium, iron, potassium, copper and manganese, with cacao flavanols associated with healthy circulation as part of a balanced lifestyle.

Pure cacao. Direct from origin.

Created for daily rituals, meaningful moments and the gentle journey Back to Self.

Here’s our signature daily cacao recipe

You will need

30–35g Back to Self Cacao, finely chopped
200–300ml Plenish Oat Milk or filtered water
A pinch of Celtic sea salt
A pinch of black pepper
Date syrup or raw honey, if desired

Optional additions: fresh ginger, cinnamon, vanilla or cardamom.

To prepare

Place the finely chopped cacao in a small pan with a splash of oat milk or filtered water.

Finish with Celtic sea salt, black pepper and a touch of natural sweetness, if desired.

For a deeper ceremonial experience, use 40–50g of cacao.

From Nicaragua, with love

Our cacao is grown with care by Diomendez and his family in the mountains of Nicaragua.

From their land to your cup, every part of its journey is rooted in relationship, with the people who grow it, the earth that nourishes it and the ritual it becomes in your hands.

We hope it helps you deepen your relationship with yourself and others.

Thank you for choosing Back to Self.

Our Story

We’d been working with cacao for years in our daily rituals, in ceremony, retreats, and it had helped us through many moments in the last five years.

But as the commercial landscape for cacao started to explode we felt we wanted to connect with the source more. Was the cacao we were buying ethically sourced? We didn’t know for sure. So we didn’t just want to serve cacao, we wanted to honour it properly, connect to its roots, its history and the journey from earth to cup.

That calling led us to Nicaragua. From the volcanic energy of Ometepe to the mountains in the north, we experienced cacao in a way that felt deeply grounding and profoundly loving.

Along the way, we met Diomendez and his beautiful family, who welcomed us onto their farm with incredible warmth and generosity. Walking on their land and experiencing their process firsthand made everything more meaningful.

That journey gave us a real relationship to the people, the process and the energy behind every cup. And as our love for each other and cacao deepened, we had a wild notion to bring it back home.

Over the years we’ve tried many different types of cacao but we have never come across one that tastes so smooth. We used to think ‘bitter’ meant better. How wrong we were. Turns out you can have Cacao that gives you all the health benefits and tastes delicious without having to add a million different sweeteners and spices (although sometimes welcome)

At the beginning it was just cacao facilitators and yoga teachers using our cacao, now it’s also cafes, whole food shops and even our Mums friends ‘I love a small cup before bed’

This cacao isn’t just for one group of people. It’s for anyone who sees the benefit in taking a pause with this medicine and coming back to themselves.

Back to love. Back to body. Back to self.

All the cacao love, Elissia & Shaun
